What does it mean to be a Master of Wine?

The Master of Wine (MW) title is one of the most prestigious and demanding in the world of wine. Created by the Institute of Masters of Wine in the United Kingdom, this title is only achieved by professionals who complete a rigorous training process and pass a series of theoretical exams, blind tastings and an original thesis on some aspect of wine. The MW title is synonymous with in-depth knowledge and maximum competence in the world of wine, which is why the opinions and assessments of an MW like Tim Atkin carry great weight in the industry.
